World Accreditation Day 2022 – The importance of Accreditation for Sustainable Development Goals

June 9th 2022 marks World Accreditation Day (#WAD2022), a global initiative established by ILAC (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation) and IAF (International Accreditation Forum) to promote the value of the conformity assessment activities.

This year’s World Accreditation Day is on 9th June and the theme is Accreditation: Sustainability in Economic Growth and the Environment focuses on how accreditation supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15.

As defined by the members of the United Nations, there are 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) to be achieved by 2030, including ending all forms of poverty in the world, ensuring a more sustainable future, protecting the planet and increasing prosperity.

Accreditation provides solutions to implement, measure and monitor the objectives contained in the SDGs and the support to achieve them, but this ambitious plan requires the collaboration of all parts of society, from local and national governments to individuals.

Companies can play a key role in implementing SDGs, improving their sustainability practices in the three macro-areas: economic, social and environmental.
